April 30, 2024

WomenintheFurTradeFundraiseraSuccessOn April 18, 2024, Aboriginal Legal Services partnered with the Native Earth Performing Arts in association with National Arts Centre Indigenous Theatre and Great Canadian Theatre Company, Ottawa to fundraise for the capital campaign. The play was called, “Women in The Fur Trade”. It was a comedy written by Francis Končan and Directed by Renae Morriseau.

The Play is based in the 1800’s in Redish River Settlement in the Treaty 1 Territory. The cast of five does an excellent job keeping the audience entertained as well as providing some historical information on Loius Reil. The cast was entertaining, animated, and showcased their excellent acting abilities. The show was nearly sold out with rave reviews from the people who attended. We encourage the community to attend this show.

In addition, the ALS Board of Directors provided donations for a raffle for attendees. The raffle included a Toronto Maple Leaf Jersey, a traditional blanket, ALS cups, and t-shirts. We would like to thank all the Board members who donated to the fundraiser. In addition, we would like to thank Barbara Yip, Jonathan Rudin, and Teri Cronley for all their hard work in organizing this event. Your hard work and time are greatly appreciated.
