HRAI contributor and trade press columnist Bruce Nagy recently penned a comprehensive piece in Plumbing Engineer Magazine (the official publication of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers) that examined whether North America really can move quickly to a largely electrified society.
The article, entitled “Can We Truly Electrify America?” discusses the struggles of the geo-exchange heating and cooling industry in Ontario and the Northeastern United States to communicate a message that widespread adoption of heat pumps will not stress electrical grids or break government budgets. He also reviews the impact of tighter building envelopes, electric vehicles, solar panels, batteries, micro-grids and vehicle-to-grid technologies.
The suggestion is that there is nothing to worry about, and furthermore, that such a future is not only inevitable, but will create great opportunities for the HVAC sector. Interested readers can find the article here.
