Spotlight ontheTown March192024The Town of The Blue Mountains is Canada’s second fastest growing municipality and serves as home to over 9,300 full-time residents, with an extensive part-time and seasonal population. Recognized as Ontario’s true four-season tourism and recreation destination, The Blue Mountains welcomes an additional 2.5 million visitors annually and offers a high-quality lifestyle that caters to families looking to build a solid foundation, adventurers looking to go off the beaten path and relaxation seekers taking in and experiencing the very best the area has to offer. Built on a strong foundation of agriculture and tourism, the success of the local economy has been driven largely by innovation and entrepreneurship across the sectors of agriculture, tourism, construction, small business and hospitality and service.

With an annual combined Operating and Capital Budget of over $100,000,000, our small but mighty team is kept busy.

Tracy Nowak, Administrative Assistant, has been with The Blue Mountains since August 2018. Prior to working for The Blue Mountains, Tracy worked at Toronto Hydro as a Financial Reporting Coordinator and uses her wealth of knowledge gained there to assist the Procurement Team. Tracy sets up our bid opportunities on Bids and Tenders, assists with managing the over 150 p-cards used by Town staff and issues purchase orders. Tracy also keeps our reporting records up to date. Tracy is a nature enthusiast who thrives outdoors, especially in Algonquin Park. Whether hiking, paddling, or simply enjoying the scenery, she finds joy in every adventure. Tracy’s heart belongs to her son, and their time together is filled with laughter and shared moments. Her infectious sense of humor brightens the days of those around her, making Tracy a delightful presence in the lives of family and friends.

Danny Dhaliwal, Purchasing Specialist, joined the Town in July 2023. Previously, Danny worked for City of Mississauga as an IT Procurement Specialist and City of Toronto as a Senior Corporate Buyer for IT, Engineering, goods and services and professional services. Prior to joining the municipal sector, Danny worked for Molson Coors Global as Procurement Specialist. Danny has immersed himself in with our Team and has taken the lead on issuing maintenance bids for the corporation, including generator maintenance and overhead door maintenance. Danny enjoys bike rides and nature, finding relaxation and inspiration in the outdoors. Danny values self-improvement and spends his free time reading books that contribute to his personal and professional growth. Family is a top priority, and he cherishes quality time with loved ones. Committed to giving back, Danny actively participates in community service.

Serena Wilgress, Manager of Purchasing & Risk Management has been with the Town since 2002. Serena started as a Clerk/Receptionist after being a stay-at-home mom for 10 years. Serena joined the Finance team in 2007 and assisted the Manager of Purchasing & Risk Management with reviewing bid opportunities. In 2013, when the position opened up, Serena took on the Manager role. Having been the only team member for several years, Serena is very happy to have the team grow and expand, allowing for time to focus on projects which require more time. In her downtime, Serena enjoys preserving each season’s harvest, spending time with her three grand daughters and visiting “the land” outside of Huntsville for as much forest bathing as she can take in.
