August 28, 2024 – As the summer wraps up, I am reflecting on all the exciting things that happened over the past few months including the Strategic Planning Sessions that occurred with management. The strategic planning sessions allowed the management to express the strengths of the organization as well as the gaps that need to be addressed.
The strategic plan was finalized this past June has four strategic priorities which include Culture, Collaboration and Capacity Development, Community, Client Outcomes, and Fundraising. Culture includes building and enhancing our existing culturally based programming to ensure that it is culturally safe, culturally based and inclusive of a diversity of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit cultures. The second priority is Collaboration and Capacity Development which includes enhancing communication and partnerships among ALS staff and Board of Directors to enhance programming. The third priority is Community and developing strong positive relationships and communication channels with communities to ensure programs are accessible and reflect community needs. The next priority is Client Outcomes to ensure that programming is meeting client needs and achieving desired outcomes. The last priority is the plan is fundraising. Fundraising ensures the longevity of ALS programming through coordinated and strategic fundraising efforts.
As we move forward with the strategic plan, we will be meeting with each program to gather feedback on how we can align each program with the strategic plan. We will meet with managers, supervisors, front line workers, and clients to ensure the grassroots people’s voices are heard and captured. We will also connect with other Indigenous organizations to create strong relationships and partnerships. Aboriginal Legal Service is looking forward to the implementation of the Strategic Plan and evolving the organization.
