The Canadian Dairy Commission announces farm gate milk prices to be increased
In October 2021, the Canadian Dairy Commission (CDC) conducted a review of Canadian farm gate milk prices and various other costs used in administering the supply management. As a result of the review and consultations, the CDC has authorized an increase in milk prices, with retail prices expecting to go up by 8.4% or more. The impact on industrial prices will vary.
Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau Interview with Real Agriculture
This week, the returning Minister for Agriculture and Agri-Food participated in an interview with Real Agriculture, where she indicated her priorities include addressing the shortage of workers in agriculture, all things related to climate transition, and preparing for the upcoming FPT Ministers meeting. In her interview, she highlighted the role of temporary foreign workers in the agriculture system and encouraged Canadians to join the agricultural sector as ways to address the labour challenges being faced.
Share Your Thoughts: Proposed changes to the Canadian Grade Compendium: Volume 2 – Fresh Fruits or Vegetables
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is proposing, at the request of the fresh fruit and vegetable (FFV) industry, to modernize and harmonize existing grade requirements relating to the quality of FFV and to introduce new grade standards for certain commodities. The consultation is taking place in phases. Phase 1 is focused on proposed changes to grades and requirements for greenhouse cucumbers and greenhouse tomatoes and is open until December 31, 2021.
Return of Parliament
Looking forward, Parliament is set to resume sitting on November 22, beginning with the election of the Speaker of the House. The Speech from the Throne will take place the following day, on November 23.
