NFP Welcomes Ogilvy to the Family

January 22, 2021

It’s a year of growth and expansion ahead for NFP. In November 2020, the reputed insurance broker and consultant acquired Ogilvy Insurance in its ongoing efforts to build its Quebec presence and bolster its Canadian footprint.

“NFP Canada needed to find a broker who is familiar and established within the province of Quebec. Ogilvy Insurance meets that need,” says Glenn Meyer, vice-president with NFP. “David Ogilvy and his team not only have the general insurance experience in Quebec but the fact that they also have Moving & Storage experience made for the perfect fit.”

As a family-run, independent company, Ogilvy has provided insurance products and guidance to its clients since 1924 from office locations in Montreal, Toronto, and Oakville, Ont. According to David, the decision to sell the well-established firm to Ogilvy to NFP was part of his broader succession strategy: “Finding the right partner was an important aspect of transitioning a 96-year-old family firm and we landed on NFP for several reasons. We were looking for a partner that already had a substantial size, and a partner that shared the same culture and view of how we treat our employees and our customers.”

“By joining forces, we knew we would become by far the leading insurance brokerage for movers in Canada,” he adds.

Building a legacy

Ogilvy’s experience and reputation in Montreal were part of the company’s appeal for NFP. With the acquisition complete, NFP looks forward to leveraging Ogilvy’s talent and resources.

“Ogilvy Insurance is a well-respected P&C practice, and the expertise they bring will complement our existing offerings in Canada,” said John Belyea, Chief Operating Officer, NFP in Canada. “There’s an opportunity to scale our presence in Quebec to create a consolidated full-service offering that provides clients with employee benefits, commercial lines and personal lines P&C solutions through one collaborative organization.”

Surely, the deal brings numerous advantages to NFP clients. Beyond gaining access to more insurance resources and talent, the deal will also open the door to new and expanded products – all while changing little about the experience customers have grown to trust.

“Customers will continue to work with the same team they are used to working with, but over time, customers will see a broadening of products available,” says David, noting, “Overall, the plan is the bring the best of both worlds together for the benefit of our current and prospective clients.”

Moving up

Bringing Ogilvy into the fold is the next step in NFP’s evolution. Today, the firm has employees across Canada, the U.S., Britain and Europe, making it a top provider of employee benefits, property and casualty (P&C), retirement, and individual solutions. Moreover, with the acquisition of McLean Hallmark in 2019 and Ogilvy Insurance in 2020, NFP Canada has made a significant investment to become Canada’s largest, most specialized independent insurance broker to serve the moving and storage industry.

“In an environment where many insurance markets are hesitating or are even backing away from insuring movers, it has never been more timely that NFP Canada displays a level of confidence and commitment to both our clients and our insurance markets,” notes Meyers. “With our scale and extensive experience combined with competent, proven and stable insurance carriers, we will be even more capable of meeting the needs of the moving industry with enhanced insurance solutions at competitive and stable rates.”
