HRAI Advocacy Day at Queen’s Park

As part of HRAI’s increased and more pro-active approach to advocacy on behalf of our members, we have scheduled an Advocacy Day at Queen’s Park on March 4. We are working hard to arrange as many meetings as possible with a variety of provincial Cabinet Ministers, their Parliamentary Assistants, Opposition Critics, the Party Leaders as well as key staff.
The main goals of our Advocacy Day are:
- To build general awareness and understanding of HRAI, our role and the HVACR sector.
- To provide an overview regarding key issues.
In addition to the need to educate them about HRAI and the HVACR sector, issues to be discussed will focus on:
- Energy Efficiency – codes and standards,
- Ontario College of Trades update re: next steps
- Skill shortage
- Future of Refrigerants and,
- Bill 159 (Door to Door amendments)
Like many people, provincial cabinet and caucus members and their staff teams are generally not overly familiar with issues regarding the HVACR sector.
As a result, increasing their understanding of our sector and about the role that HRAI can play is important. Over the long term, educating elected officials, policy advisors and civil servants is to consult with HRAI and its members to enhance their understanding of the HVACR sector. This will better inform provincial policy and legislation.
HRAI has asked Ontario members of the HRAI board, Ontario Chapter presidents, members of the Ontario Regional Council as well as members of our new HRAI / ORAC Government Relations Committee to help us represent the sector. We are hoping for representation from across the province and from our contractors, wholesalers and manufacturers divisions.
These HRAI members will play a very important role:
- Effectively deliver key messages, and
- Effectively represent HRAI and the HVACR sector (wholesalers, manufacturers, commercial and residential contractors, union and non-union).

Overview:
Members have clearly indicated in recent surveys that they place a high value on the advocacy work HRAI conducts on their behalf. We want to ensure members are aware of our Government Relations activities. We value your input and any information and feedback you would like to contribute.
Taking a proactive, ongoing, consultative approach will ensure we remain aware and informed of the provincial government’s direction on various issues. More importantly, it will work to ensure the various ministers and ministry staff are better educated and informed about the policy needs of our sector.
