As the largest private capital markets community in Canada, we have committed ourselves to speak in one voice, to be identified as one brand, and to be thinking always of how we can be seen and heard as relevant, sought after, and understood by all Canadians. As a result, we indeed had great and unprecedented impact in 2018! As we reflect on the progress the PCMA has made over the past year we can see that there is great ambition and energy that will take us into 2019!
We thank you for your continued commitment to the PCMA, to the industry and all that you do to deliver on our purpose – to educate, elevate and advocate.
While there is much work to do and further challenges ahead, we end 2018 stronger and better able to serve the PCMA membership.
There are many issues weighing not only on us, but on the entire financial services industry, including concerns about the global economy, the implementation of new regulations and capital requirements and how this will affect how we do business.
As always, the PCMA is working hard to support our members and to ensure that exempt market dealers, professionals, accountants, lawyers, consultants, dealing representatives and issuers, continue to have a strong voice.
Over the last 12 months we have made remarkable headway on several great initiatives, both regionally and nationally:
- The Private Capital Markets Association of Canada (PCMA) and the National Exempt Market Association (NEMA) announced the merger, thereby strengthening the private capital and exempt markets industry and making the new entity the largest private capital markets community in Canada! 2 sold out 2018 PCMA Conferences! In Toronto, “Setting the Pace for the Private Capital Markets”, Merger Celebration and Conference; plus, our first ever western conference in Calgary, WNIC2018.
- Partnership with CPE Media; the official data provider for the PCMA! Fantastic member benefit.
- Partnership with AON; providing E&O insurance for PCMA dealing representatives! A great new member benefit!
- Hosted six very well attended educational webinars online and in person on various industry topics.
- Multiple Queen’s Park Roundtable and meet and greets with the premier and minister of finance: approached government on important issues, such as offering memorandum, red tape and best interest standards and infrastructure opportunities.
- Fresh, bold, new modern look and name for our industry magazine, Private Investor Magazine – a popular industry publication featuring articles written by you.
- Increasing exposure on radio and televsion featuring key industry leaders.
- Continued success with the PCMA E-NewsBrief – a one stop source for your private capital markets industry and community news.
- Successful ongoing partnership with IFSE Institute in providing education to exempt market professionals.
- Partnerships with PCMA member-firms to provide additional benefits to our community.
- Co-hosted successful networking events with other industry related associations.
- October 19, 2018 – PCMA Comment Letter on Client Focussed Reforms to Enhance the Client-Registrant Relationship.

- PCMA comments in connection with the Department of Finance Canada discussion paper Reviewing Canada’s Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Regime May 18, 2018.
- It’s been a super busy year and those are only a few highlights from 2018, and we are looking forward to carrying all this positive energy and enthusiasm into 2019!
The New Year will bring its own mix of successes and challenges, but our direction is clear and we know what we must do. Our job is to continue to focus intently on what we can control: providing our members with the best service and most comprehensive industry solutions, strengthen our brand, advocate, bring further awareness and doing our part to keep the economy moving forward. Our long-term value will come through and be reflected in the pride of membership; the PCMA is your industry association!
